Balay E15 error: what it means and what to do with the dishwasher

Balay error code E15 usually means that the leak-protection system has detected water in the bottom tray of the dishwasher. The search is sometimes associated with a Balay washing machine, but this warning mainly applies to dishwashers from the BSH Group; on a washing machine, its meaning depends on the model and should not be assumed.

What the E15 code reveals in a Balay appliance

The dishwasher contains a float or float sensor in its lower area. When a small leak fills the tray, the float rises and the electronics stop the water inlet to prevent flooding. For this reason, the program may stop, the pump may run continuously, or the appliance may refuse to start a normal cycle.

The cause is not always a visible break. Water may come from a worn seal, a loose hose, the drain pump, the heating element, the hydraulic assembly or a poorly fitted part. Running an open dishwasher to see where water escapes is not a safe check for an inexperienced user. The repair must replace the leaking part, rather than simply emptying the tray or resetting the electronics.

A photo of the display, the complete model number and whether water is present on the floor help distinguish a real leak from a misinterpreted code. E15 does not identify the failed part by itself, but it gives a clear clue: the system has detected a water-related condition. Drying and resetting may be useful as a one-time check, never as a permanent solution when the warning returns.
