Error FJ en la vitrocerámica Candy: significado y solución

On certain Candy radiant ceramic hobs, FJ indicates a keypad safety error during an automatic check. It may disappear once the control registers a safe value; if it remains or returns, the hob needs professional assessment. The code does not, by itself, identify a faulty circuit board, nor is switching off the child lock necessarily a solution. Before arranging a repair, the accessible checks are limited to clearing the controls, cleaning and drying the glass once it is cool, and consulting the instructions for the model.

If you have a problem with your ceramic hob, you can use our free error code finder. It can help you identify and resolve errors easily and effectively.

What the FJ message actually means

The touch panel does more than receive instructions to switch on a cooking zone or change its power. It also checks that the keypad is in a suitable condition to operate. On Candy radiant hob ranges that use this naming system, FJ is grouped with FU as part of an automatic safety check. The message indicates that this check has not yet returned a safe result, rather than necessarily identifying a specific broken component.

This distinction matters because an error code describes what the control detects, but does not always explain the physical cause. If FJ remains on the display, the code alone cannot distinguish between a keypad issue and an electronic fault. It therefore does not confirm a failed part or justify immediately buying a control module, a sensor or any other replacement component.

The description of this message states that it clears when a safe value is obtained at the end of the check. It does not specify a universal waiting time or a button combination to remove it. If the hob continues to display the message after the permitted external checks, home troubleshooting should stop: a persistent message needs diagnosis, not a series of random button presses.

Identifying the appliance is also essential. Although any glass cooking surface is sometimes described as a ceramic hob, radiant and induction models do not necessarily share the same electronics or error codes. The FJ meaning described here applies to certain Candy radiant hobs and must be checked against the exact model’s instruction manual. Using guidance for another range can lead to the wrong interpretation.

Clear, dry controls help rule out surface interference

The touch controls sit beneath the glass and may be affected by objects or residue on its surface. A damp cloth, a lid, splashes or food residue deserve a visual check before the electronics are blamed. These conditions may interfere with the controls, although their presence alone does not prove that they are the specific cause of an FJ message.

With the hob switched off and the glass cool enough, cleaning should be restricted to accessible areas. A soft cloth, slightly dampened where necessary, can remove residue without flooding the panel. Dry the surface afterwards, particularly around the sensors. The aim is a clean, dry surface, not to apply pressure or repeatedly press the controls to force a response.

Abrasive sponges and wire wool can damage the glass. Do not use pointed objects to clean around the controls or allow liquid into the seals. Specialist cleaning products should be used according to the manufacturer’s instructions. For this check, less intervention means greater safety: there is no need to lift the hob, remove trim or access the keypad from underneath.

If the message appeared after cooking, allow the appliance to cool before checking its response. A hot pan placed near the controls adds heat to a sensitive area, but this does not make FJ a universal overheating code. Recording whether there was moisture, a spill or excess heat helps describe the circumstances; it does not replace fault diagnosis that may subsequently be needed.

Switching the hob off and on does not repair the keypad

If the power control responds, switching the hob off and allowing its check to complete when it is next used may help establish whether the message was temporary. Follow the instructions for the model, without holding down sensors or trying sequences intended for other hobs. For FJ, there is no universal reset sequence that can be recommended across the entire Candy range.

Switching off at the panel is not the same as disconnecting the electrical supply. If the manual requires disconnection, do not lift out a built-in hob to find its connection, dismantle cabinetry or touch wires or terminals. Where the connection cannot be accessed through normal use of the appliance, a professional must handle the work. A household check must not turn into work on the electrical installation.

The one-minute wait mentioned in some Candy instructions applies to Fr, a code associated with relay safety. It should not automatically be applied to FJ. Similarly, reset instructions for F0 do not show that every error has the same solution. Each procedure relates to a particular code and range, and overlooking that distinction encourages unnecessary tests.

If FJ disappears and the panel responds normally again, that is a useful observation, but it does not by itself establish that a lasting repair has occurred. If the message returns during use or at subsequent start-ups, note the recurrence and stop repeatedly resetting the hob. An intermittent message may also need investigation: clearing does not always mean resolution.

Codes similar to FJ do not all mean the same thing

Candy radiant hobs may display software, temperature and safety messages that look similar. The following table covers messages associated with this family of controls, along with two common indicators that are not equivalent to FJ. Their application depends on the model; this is not a universal table for every Candy hob, particularly induction models.

CodeDescriptionCause or condition indicatedSafe action
FU / FJKeypad safety error. The automatic keypad check has not obtained a safe value.Clear, clean and dry the controls with the hob cool. Arrange professional assessment if it persists.
FAKeypad safety error. An automatic software check is awaiting a safe result.Contact a service technician if it does not clear when the check ends.
FC / FdKeypad safety error. An automatic software check has not returned a safe result.Consult the model’s manual and arrange assessment if the message remains.
F0Touch-control software error. An issue has been detected in the panel’s software operation.Follow the reset specified in the manual without accessing electrical connections. Arrange assessment if it appears during normal operation or persists.
FcExcessive temperature in the control area. The touch control is too hot and the cooking zones switch off.Allow it to cool. Models with automatic recovery resume operation when a normal temperature is reached.
Ft / FEPossible touch-control temperature sensor fault. The control detects a possible problem with its temperature sensor.Allow it to cool. Arrange assessment if the message remains at room temperature.
FrRelay safety error.A possible relay problem. The instructions specify disconnecting the supply and waiting one minute. If this requires access to the installation, a professional must do it. A persistent message needs assessment.
L / LoControl lock. The lock function is active.Follow the unlocking procedure for the specific model.
HAn indicator commonly associated with residual heat. The zone may still be hot; the precise interpretation depends on the model.Do not touch the zone and allow it to cool.

Documentation for different ranges uses Fc for excessive temperature and includes FC among keypad safety messages. This difference in lettering cannot provide a diagnosis alone, because display segments can be ambiguous and the tables are not interchangeable. A photograph of the message and the correct manual are more useful than an interpretation based solely on an uppercase letter.

The same caution applies to FA: some induction tables group it with F9 as a temperature sensor fault affecting an electronic component. In the radiant family shown in this table, it is described as a keypad safety message. These meanings should not be combined. The hob technology and model reference determine which explanation applies, not just the letters on the display.

The child-lock procedure does not clear FJ

The control lock is an operating function; FJ is a message associated with a safety check. When L or Lo appears, the hob may simply be preventing accidental operation without any fault being present. Treating FJ as that lock can misdirect troubleshooting and delay a necessary inspection. They are different control conditions, even if both prevent cooking.

Some models are unlocked using the padlock sensor, while others use combinations of buttons. These should not be tried indiscriminately on a hob displaying FJ. Besides failing to address the reason for the message, pressing several sensors can activate unrelated functions. The valid procedure is the unlocking method for that model, and only when a lock indication is actually present.

FJ should not be confused with the residual heat indicator either. An H commonly warns that a zone can still cause burns even though it is switched off; it does not mean the surface is safe to touch because heating has stopped. A panel may show indicators with different purposes. Reading the whole display without ignoring other symbols helps distinguish operating status from a fault before deciding what to do.

When to stop using the hob

While FJ remains on the display, do not try to cook by repeatedly switching the hob on or looking for a way to override its protection. The keypad is how power is selected and heating is stopped. If its check does not complete correctly, do not force the hob into use, even if one zone seems to respond or the message disappears for a few seconds.

A message appearing beside just one indicator does not prove that the other zones are independent or unaffected. The controls may manage several functions through a shared electronic assembly. Unless the manual expressly allows it in that situation, using another zone does not rule out risk and is not a temporary workaround that can be recommended generally.

Cracked glass, a burning smell, smoke, sparks or electrical protective devices tripping change the situation: stop using the appliance and seek professional help. Do not repeat tests to see whether it starts working again. If a zone will not switch off using the controls, seek immediate help without touching connections or moving the hob. These signs go beyond household troubleshooting.

Information that helps diagnosis without dismantling

The full model reference and serial number are useful for identifying the hob. They may be in the purchase documents, the manual or on a label visible without moving the appliance. If the label is beneath the worktop and cannot be viewed safely, lifting the hob is not worthwhile. The priority is gathering details without dismantling the appliance, not obtaining a photograph at any cost.

A clear image of the display helps establish whether the message is FJ, FU or another similar combination. It also helps to describe whether it appears at start-up, after cooking or intermittently. Separate observations from assumptions: a spill before the message appeared is a fact; saying that water has damaged the electronics without inspection would be a premature conclusion.

Internal repair may require checking the keypad, its connections and the modules that control it. These are tasks for an authorised technician with the appliance made safe. Users should not open it, measure voltages, bypass sensors or test replacement boards. Besides the electrical risk, intervention without diagnosis can turn a localised problem into additional damage beyond the original fault.

Before authorising work, check whether the appliance has warranty cover and what the conditions say. Do not assume that any intervention automatically invalidates cover, but do not assume damage caused during dismantling will be covered either. Leaving the appliance intact and providing its symptoms helps establish eligibility and avoids jeopardising a potential warranty claim through unnecessary action.

A repair decision starts with confirming the cause

The FJ code does not provide a repair price. Without identifying the model, investigating the issue and determining whether a component is faulty, any figure would be too provisional to be particularly useful. An advertised rate for general repairs does not establish the cost of this case either. The decisive information is a quotation based on the diagnosis, not an amount attached solely to the two letters on the display.

Before accepting a quotation, establish whether it includes diagnosis, travel, labour, parts and tax, and what happens to the call-out charge if the repair is declined. There is no universal rule about deducting the diagnostic fee. Clarifying these terms makes it possible to compare quotations on the same basis and avoids confusing call-out and repair charges.

Buying a keypad or circuit board in advance does not guarantee a saving. One brand may use several different controls, and a visually similar part may be incompatible or require configuration. Replacing a component should be based on its part reference and a confirmed fault. The code does not identify the spare part, and replacing one as a test can add expense without restoring the hob.

Whether to repair or replace depends on the full cost, the appliance’s age, the condition of the glass, its repair history and the availability of the correct part. An isolated message does not justify discarding a hob; a major repair on an appliance with other damage deserves a wider comparison. With FJ, a sound decision starts by confirming what has failed and maintaining the boundary between external checks and professional intervention.
