F2 error on a Balay induction hob: causes and solution
The F2 warning may have a simple cause, but it can also point to an electrical issue requiring professional attention.

The F2 code on a Balay induction hob usually appears when the appliance detects excessive temperature or an irregularity in the electrical supply. On some models, the warning disappears after the surface cools down and the power is disconnected for a few minutes; if it returns, there may be a fault with the temperature sensor, ventilation, installation or electronics.
The priority is to stop cooking, remove the cookware and avoid taking the hob apart. A hob that switches off while the glass is very hot may be protecting itself, whereas an F2 appearing just after a power cut or voltage surge calls for attention to the home electrical supply.

What the F2 code means on a Balay hob
The exact meaning may vary according to the series and model, so the instruction manual remains the definitive reference. Even so, the F2 warning is commonly linked to an excessively high internal temperature or a supply voltage outside the range the hob can safely handle.
Heat can build up after using several zones at high power for a long time, using excessively large cookware or blocking the airflow beneath the glass. The hob has fans and sensors to protect its power modules; if heat cannot escape, it stops operating before the components are damaged.
An electrical issue may also be involved. Domestic supplies in Spain normally operate at a nominal 230 volts, but incorrect wiring, damaged cables, loose terminals or a temporary overvoltage can make the system display the code. An F2 appearing after a storm or power cut is an important clue, although it does not confirm the cause on its own.
How to reset the hob safely
Switch off all controls and move the cookware away. Let the glass cool completely, without covering it with wet cloths or applying cold water, since a sudden temperature change can damage the ceramic surface. Then disconnect the power at the accessible plug or the relevant circuit breaker for at least five minutes.
After restoring power, switch on the hob without placing any cookware on it and check whether the warning has disappeared. If it works, test one zone with induction-compatible cookware at moderate power. A gentle hum or the fan running temporarily can be normal; a code that immediately returns should not be ignored.
Also check that the lower ventilation openings are not blocked by the cabinet, overfilled drawers or dust. The hob needs space to expel hot air. Do not remove the lower cover to inspect wires or capacitors: even when disconnected, the electronics may retain dangerous electrical charges.
When F2 needs professional inspection
If the error appears when the hob is cold, after every reset or while using one particular zone, there may be a problem with the temperature sensor, fan, induction module or electronic board. In that situation, repeatedly switching it on can worsen the fault and make diagnosis more difficult.
A voltage surge can affect other kitchen appliances, so note whether other devices restart, circuit breakers trip or there is a smell of hot plastic. The installation should be measured by an electrician using suitable instruments; handling terminals while the hob is connected creates a risk of electric shock and fire.
The technician will need the appliance’s full reference, usually found in the documentation or on a label on the unit, as well as when the F2 appeared and what happened beforehand. This information helps distinguish a temporary warning from a genuine fault. Do not use the hob until the cause is identified if the code persists, there is a burning smell, unusual noise or repeated electrical trips.
A brief warning that deserves a precise response
F2 does not automatically mean that the hob must be replaced. Sometimes it follows temporary overheating and disappears after cooling and resetting; in other cases, it reveals poor ventilation or a voltage problem that must be corrected before cooking resumes.
The difference lies in repetition and context. A cold hob that displays the code again is giving a protection signal, not a passing inconvenience. Treating it carefully helps preserve the electronics, prevent installation damage and make an informed choice between a targeted repair and replacing the appliance.
