The F2 code on a Balay cooktop usually indicates that the electronic system has detected excessive heat or abnormal electrical voltage. As a protective measure, the cooking zone may switch off and the controls may stop responding until the appliance cools down.

The message should not be treated as one universal fault, because its exact meaning may vary by model.

The glass surface may not feel especially hot, but beneath it there are heating elements, sensors and electronic modules that need to release heat. Insufficient ventilation below the worktop, particularly when a drawer or oven is too close, can also contribute to the warning.

Do not open the worktop or measure voltage without electrical expertise. A cooking appliance may operate with a high-power installation, and the danger can remain after the controls are switched off. Burnt wiring, a loose connection or incorrect supply voltage must be checked by a qualified technician, not with improvised bridges or repairs.
