Alerts on the Balay VT 913 dishwasher do not always indicate a serious fault. A blocked filter, a poorly closed door or a temporary power interruption can stop the cycle and leave the display inactive. The first response should be to note the code, check the basics and avoid opening the appliance while it is still connected to the power supply.

What the most common alerts mean

The E24 code is usually linked to drainage problems. Before assuming that the pump has failed, check that the internal filter is clean, that no food remains are blocking the bottom of the tub and that the drain hose is not bent. An incorrect connection to the sink trap can also be responsible, particularly after a recent installation.

When the appliance does not take in water, the cause may be a closed tap, insufficient pressure or dirt in the small inlet filter. A tap indicator or an inlet-related code calls for checking those areas without forcing the inlet valve. Lack of water and poor drainage can produce similar symptoms, but they require different checks.

Safe resets and basic checks

An interrupted cycle can be cancelled by holding the start button for about three seconds, depending on the control-panel configuration. Then switch off the dishwasher, wait a few minutes and select a cycle again. This reset can clear temporary locks, but it will not repair a leaking appliance, a damaged pump or a persistent electronic fault.

The door must close until it clicks into place, and the spray arms need to turn freely. A badly positioned rack can prevent the door from closing or stop the detergent dispenser from opening. Excess foam, unsuitable detergent or a trapped tablet can also affect washing without indicating an electrical defect. Checking the load and detergent prevents a use-related issue being mistaken for a fault.

Why the dishwasher stops or makes noises

A short humming sound at the beginning of the cycle usually comes from the pump, while water entering and leaving is normal operation. Metallic knocking, however, often means that a spray arm is touching a plate, dish or cutlery. Redistributing the load is safer than continuing while a loose item is moving inside.

If the dishwasher stops with water in the base, do not keep starting new cycles. Close the inlet tap and disconnect the appliance if there are signs of leakage. Water under the tub, a hot-plastic smell or a tripping circuit breaker require technical assistance, as they may involve the safety system, wiring or an internal leak.

When to leave the repair to a technician

A code that returns after cleaning filters, checking hoses and performing a reset needs precise identification. Write down the complete message, including numbers, letters and symbols, and consult the manual for the appliance shown on the rating plate. The commercial name VT 913 may not be enough to identify the exact version, since the product number distinguishes components and variants.

Do not bypass sensors, open the base or handle the electronic board. Disconnecting the appliance before any external inspection is essential, but it does not turn an electrical repair into a household task. When the error persists, professional testing can assess leaks, pump, heating element, control module and protection system without making the damage worse.
