When a Balay dishwasher displays E01, or a reading similar to 001 on the screen, the appliance is reporting an electrical or electronic issue. It may appear after a power cut, storm, tripped breaker or voltage fluctuation, although it can also mean that the control board has been affected.

If you have a problem with your dishwasher, you can use our free error code finder. From there you can identify and solve all errors easily and effectively.

What the E01 code means on a Balay dishwasher

The code does not identify one specific part by itself. In practice, it indicates that the electronics cannot start or control the appliance normally. The cause may be the power supply, wiring, an internal connection or the electronic module, also called the PCB control board.

The board memory stores the parameters needed for the dishwasher to coordinate water intake, the motor, heating and drainage. A power cut during a cycle can cause a temporary lockup, while a surge may damage board components. That is why the same warning may disappear after a reset or return immediately.

Before doing anything, check for a burning smell, dark marks on the plug, excessive heat or moisture beneath the appliance. Any of these signs means you should disconnect the dishwasher and close the water inlet tap, without testing it again until the installation has been checked.

How to respond without making the fault worse

Turn the appliance off using its button and wait a few seconds. Then disconnect it from the power supply for at least 10 minutes; if the plug is inaccessible, an adult with electrical knowledge should switch off the relevant circuit at the panel. This allows residual energy to dissipate and helps rule out a temporary system fault.

When reconnecting it, avoid power strips, extension leads and other appliances on the same outlet. Check that the plug is secure and that the cable has no cuts, severe bends or scorched areas. If the code disappears, select a short program and monitor the first cycle: a real fix means the appliance completes the wash without displaying the warning again.

If E01 returns, do not dismantle the door or remove the board. The inspection requires voltage measurements, connector checks and an assessment of whether the board needs repair, reprogramming or replacement. Handling capacitors or connections while the appliance is powered can cause electric shock and increase the damage. A qualified technician can also distinguish an electronic fault from an external problem in the household supply.

When to stop testing and request a diagnosis

Professional assistance is particularly advisable when the error appears after a surge, the dishwasher will not start, the lights flash unusually or the breaker trips again. It is also the right option if the appliance is under warranty, since opening it may affect the manufacturer’s coverage.

The cost depends on the model and damaged component: a connection or minor repair is usually cheaper than a complete board. Before approving the work, request a quotation covering travel, labor and parts, and provide the exact model and serial number. The error may be a trace of a recent electrical incident, but it should never be a reason to keep powering a potentially damaged machine.
