Balay TW5512 errors and messages: how to understand them

The Balay TW5512 can display codes, symbols or warnings that do not always indicate a fault. On this model, messages such as F:16, OPEn, PAUS or the excess-foam symbol help explain what is happening during washing or drying. What the Balay TW5512 warnings mean

The OPEn message is normally linked to the door: it may not be properly engaged, clothing may be trapped in the seal or the locking mechanism may have a problem. The door may also remain locked if water is still in the drum or if the programme has ended at a high temperature. Never pull the handle; wait a few minutes and check that the water has drained.

The PAUS message does not describe a fault but a programme pause. The 24h indication works similarly, referring to the programmed finish time. If the foam or overdosing symbol appears, the appliance has detected too much detergent. Using less detergent in the next cycle and selecting an extra rinse is usually more useful than repeatedly resetting the appliance.

F:16 and other common problems during the cycle

In the documentation for this washer-dryer family, F:16 generally points to the door-lock system. Before considering a lock replacement, remove any trapped clothing, check that the seal is not distorted and close the door firmly without slamming it. If the code returns with an empty drum, the sensor or locking mechanism may need professional inspection.

When the programme stops with water inside, the cause is often the pump filter, drain hose or a blockage. Switch off and unplug the appliance, protect the floor with towels and drain the water carefully, as it may be hot. Coins, lint and small objects can stop the pump from turning. The hose must not be kinked or installed at the wrong height.

A cycle that takes longer than expected does not necessarily indicate a fault. The TW5512 can adjust its duration according to the load, water temperature, foam and laundry moisture. If it does not spin, redistribute large and small items, reduce the load and check that the appliance is level. An unbalanced load can leave clothes wet even when the wash has finished correctly.

When to stop the machine and request assistance

Warnings linked to water supply call for a check that the tap is open, the hose is not crushed and the small inlet filter is free of limescale or sand. If no water enters at the start, these checks are more sensible than removing the panel. However, a burning smell, smoke, sparks, major leaks or a tripped breaker mean you should disconnect the washer-dryer immediately.

A door that will not close, a loose drum or repeated metallic noise during spinning also deserves attention. After noting the exact message, the programme phase and what happened immediately beforehand, diagnosis becomes more precise.
