When the front wheel of a Xiaomi scooter will not come off, there is rarely a single cause. The nuts may be seized, the covers may hide screws, or the tire may be firmly seated in the rim. Forcing the assembly is the quickest way to damage the motor cable, thread or inner tube.

The procedure varies slightly between the M365, Essential, 1S, Pro, Pro 2, Mi 3 and some Xiaomi 4 versions, but the logic remains the same: identify the fastening system, release the wheel and separate the tire only when necessary.

If you have a problem with your electric scooter, you can use our error code finder free of charge. From there you can identify and solve all errors easily and effectively.

The blockage is usually in the removal stage

Before using any tool, switch off the scooter, unplug the charger and place it on a stable surface. Remove the decorative stickers from both sides of the wheel with a thin blade, without pushing it deep. Underneath, you will usually find the protective cover screws: depending on the version, you will need a 2.5-millimeter Allen key or a T10 Torx key.

After removing the covers, hold the axle with an 18-millimeter fixed wrench and loosen both nuts. If they do not move, apply a few drops of penetrating oil to the thread and wait several minutes; do not hit the axle or pull on the cable entering the motor. Lock washers have a specific orientation and should be kept, because they help prevent the axle from turning inside the fork.

Once the nuts are removed, the wheel should slide downward. If it remains stuck, move the assembly gently from side to side. A rubber mallet may help, but use only light taps on the rim, never on the motor or wiring. If the axle is bent, the thread is damaged or the wheel remains immovable, stop and contact a repair shop.

How to separate the tire without pinching the tube

If you are replacing the complete wheel, you do not need to remove the tire. The difficulty begins when the problem is a puncture, damaged tube or worn tire. First remove the cap and release all the air by pressing the valve core. Then push the valve into the rim and apply soapy water around the edges.

Press the tire sidewalls toward the center of the rim to create slack. Insert two suitable tire levers a few inches apart and work gradually. Metal levers can mark the rim or cut the tube, so tools designed for scooters are preferable. Keep the inner tube away from the point where you are levering, especially around the valve.

When fitting the replacement, install the slightly inflated tube and check that the valve is straight. Find the tire rotation arrow and orient it correctly. Plastic zip ties around the sidewall opposite the valve can keep the tire in the rim channel and make the final section easier. Do not use screwdrivers as tire levers: the edge can pinch the tube before the wheel is even ready to ride.

The final adjustment determines whether the scooter is safe

Install the wheel in the fork while preserving the original order of washers and spacers. Tighten both nuts gradually, alternating sides, until the assembly is secure. The wheel must spin without rubbing and the motor cable must not be twisted, crushed or touching an edge. The tightening should be firm, but never a struggle against the thread.

Inflate the tire according to Xiaomi’s recommendation for your model and weight; there is no single pressure suitable for the entire range. Check it with a pressure gauge and confirm that the tire bead is seated evenly. Then install the covers, tighten their screws and replace the stickers only after completing the checks.

Before riding, lift the wheel and spin it by hand. It should not wobble, rub or have side play. Apply the brake and gently move the handlebar to check alignment. A low-speed test in a clear area can reveal unusual vibration or noise. If the wheel is loose, the motor jerks or an error appears after assembly, do not use the scooter until the connection and axle have been checked.
