E50 error on Balay dryers: causes and safe solution
The code may involve the motor or electronics. These checks help identify the scope of the fault.

The E50 code on a Balay dryer usually points to a problem with the motor, its power supply or the electronic system that controls drum rotation. It may appear when the appliance stops, fails to start or hums without moving the laundry. It does not always identify one specific part: the exact meaning depends on the model and its electronic platform.
If you have a problem with your dryer, you can use our free error code finder. From there you can identify and solve all errors easily and effectively.
What the E50 code means on a Balay dryer
On several Balay dryers belonging to the BSH group, the E50 error family is linked to the drum drive circuit. The appliance detects that the motor does not start correctly, draws abnormal current or fails to provide the expected speed signal. As a result, the program may stop a few seconds after Start is pressed.
Some causes are simple, while others require technical testing. An excessive load, tangled garments or an object caught inside can make rotation difficult, whereas a worn belt, a failing motor, brushes in older models or a damaged control board require a deeper inspection. The code alone does not confirm that the motor has failed.
Safe checks before requesting a repair
Disconnect the dryer from the power supply and wait a few minutes before handling it. Remove the laundry, check that the drum turns smoothly by hand and make sure there are no coins, loose zippers or other objects inside. It is also worth cleaning the lint filter and clearing the air inlet, since dirt can cause overheating and protective shutdowns.
Reconnect the appliance and select a short program with the drum empty. This electrical reset may clear a temporary lock caused by a voltage fluctuation, but it does not repair a defective part. If E50 returns immediately, the drum remains still or you notice a burning smell, unplug the machine again and do not run more cycles.
When the drum does not turn or the dryer stops
The symptom helps narrow down the diagnosis. A hum without movement is often associated with the belt, motor or mechanical resistance; a drum that turns unusually easily may have a broken belt. If the cycle starts and stops after heating, ventilation, the thermal sensor and the electronic board should also be checked. Opening the casing without experience creates an electrical hazard and may cause further damage.
A professional repair includes checking continuity, connectors, the tachometer, motor and power module, as well as making sure no lint has reached internal areas. On inverter-motor models, diagnosis differs from that of a conventional unit, so the complete model number is essential for interpreting E50 correctly and selecting the right replacement part.
Maintenance to reduce future occurrences
Frequent cleaning does not prevent every fault, but it reduces motor strain and supports proper airflow. Empty the condensation tank when required, clean the filter after every use and inspect the condenser periodically according to the appliance instructions. Moisture sensors should also remain free of fabric-softener residue, since an invisible film can alter cycle duration.
Avoid filling the drum beyond its stated capacity and spin laundry thoroughly before loading it. A balanced load lets the motor work without jolts and prevents unnecessary vibration. If E50 returns after these checks, the safest option is to request a technical diagnosis: repeating the reset does not replace an inspection of the drive circuit and may hide a fault that later makes the repair more expensive.
A code that requires diagnosis, not guesswork
E50 signals that the Balay dryer is not correctly controlling drum movement, but its causes can differ widely between series. Cleaning, an empty-load test and a reset are reasonable checks; dismantling the motor or board is not suitable for an untrained user. Identifying the model and noting when the fault appears helps the technician reach the real cause more quickly.
