Error 24 on Xiaomi scooters: causes and solutions
The warning is usually related to system voltage. These checks help locate the fault safely.

Error 24 on a Xiaomi scooter means that the voltage detected by the system is abnormal. The controller receives a reading outside the expected battery range, so it may trigger an alarm, prevent acceleration or limit operation to avoid electrical damage.
The warning does not identify one specific part. It may appear after fitting an incompatible battery, following a deep discharge, because of a problem with the BMS or battery management system, due to loose connectors or because of a controller fault. Riding the scooter in this condition is not recommended.

What the abnormal voltage warning means
In Xiaomi models, the battery supplies power to the controller, which regulates current to the motor. Code 24 usually appears when the measured voltage does not match the scooter’s electronic settings. On a nominal 36-volt battery, used by many M365, 1S, Essential and Pro 2 models, full charge is around 42 volts; that figure falls during use.
A replacement battery with a higher voltage can trigger the same message even when the component is new. It may also occur when a controller that does not match the firmware is installed, or after modifying the software to increase power. The scooter interprets that combination as a dangerous or incompatible reading rather than an upgrade.
Common causes and cautious checks
The first check should be carried out with the scooter switched off and the charger disconnected. Consider whether the error appeared after a repair, impact, cleaning with water or a long period without use. Moisture in the battery connectors can alter the signal and produce false voltage readings, even when the cells still work.
Check that the charger shows its usual indicator and that the plug is fully inserted, but do not open the battery or bridge its terminals. A multimeter can measure charger output, although internal testing of a lithium battery requires specialist knowledge. A very low, unstable or clearly different reading points to a battery, BMS or wiring problem.
You should also visually inspect the main connector: it must not show burned plastic, recessed pins, corrosion or strained wires. Disconnecting and reconnecting it repeatedly is not a repair; it can worsen a defective contact or cause a short circuit. If there is an unusual smell, swelling, excessive heat or liquid damage, keep the scooter outside the home and request a technical inspection.
What to do if the error remains
When the code appears immediately after changing the battery, the priority is to confirm that the replacement has the same nominal voltage, compatible connectors and a BMS recognized by the controller. Some installations also require the firmware to be configured correctly, but doing this without identifying the board version can leave the scooter locked.
If the scooter is original and the warning appears suddenly, diagnosis should focus on the battery, power cable, BMS and controller. Replacing parts at random is not advisable: a new battery can be expensive and will not solve the problem if the cause is on the electronic board. A technician can check resting voltage, voltage drop under load and communication between the BMS and controller.
Error 24 does not necessarily mean that the battery is worn out, but it does indicate a condition affecting safety and performance. Avoid updating the firmware, forcing the throttle or continuing to ride to see whether it disappears. Correct measurements and exact model identification help distinguish a damaged connector from an incompatible battery or a more serious electronic fault.
A warning worth taking seriously
Scooter alarms work like a miniature electrical dashboard: they do not always say which component failed, but they warn that something has moved outside its normal range. Addressing code 24 with the scooter switched off, without improvised modifications and through an orderly inspection reduces the risk of damaging the controller or battery.
