Balay SC 701 dryer: what to do when it says tank full

The warning may be caused by a blocked pump, a stuck float or a detection fault.

The Balay SC 701 dryer can stop its cycle and display the tank warning even when the condensation container is empty. In this model, the problem is usually found in the water collection and detection circuit, not in the drawer removed from the front. A build-up of lint, a blocked float or a clogged condensate pump can produce an incorrect reading.

If you have a problem with your dryer, you can use our free error code finder. From there you can identify and solve all errors easily and effectively.

Why the warning appears with an empty tank

In condenser dryers, the water extracted from clothes flows into a small collection area. A pump then sends it to the upper tank or to a drain if the appliance is connected that way. The electronics detect the level through a float located in the lower area. When lint and water form a paste, the float may remain raised and simulate a full container.

It can also happen that the tank does not sit fully in its guides, the drain hose is bent or the rising channel contains dirt. Emptying the drawer only removes the warning when the level was genuinely high. If the indicator returns when the machine starts, the most likely source is the pump, float or internal water passage.

Safe checks before taking it apart

Disconnect the dryer from the power supply and remove the tank. Wash the container, clean its housing and make sure there are no fibers around the inlet. Also check that the drawer slides all the way in without resistance. Then clean the lint filter and its compartment, since a blockage there can increase internal moisture and make drainage worse.

With the appliance still unplugged, inspect the rear hose if there is a direct drain connection. It must remain free of bends and have an unobstructed outlet. Do not insert metal objects or pour water inside the dryer: this could push dirt toward the pump or create an electrical hazard when it is plugged in again. After waiting a few minutes, replace the tank and test a short program with a small load.

How to clean the pump area

When the warning remains, cleaning the pump may require removing a panel and accessing the lower part of the appliance. Residual water, compacted lint and a float that no longer moves freely may be found there. The work requires unplugging the machine, protecting the floor and knowing how to refit every part. On an older dryer such as the SC 701, forcing panels or connectors can cause more expensive damage than the original fault.

The float should move smoothly and the pump impeller must not be blocked by fibers or small objects. If the pump hums but does not drain, it may be jammed; if it makes no sound during the cycle, an electrical, wiring or control fault is also possible. In either case, the replacement part must match the exact model shown on the rating plate.

When to leave the repair to a technician

If the tank stays empty, the filters are clean and the warning appears immediately, this is no longer a simple household check. A professional inspection can test the pump, verify the float and determine whether the control board receives the correct signal. Do not bypass the sensor to operate the dryer, because this system prevents water from reaching electrical components.

Maintenance greatly reduces the chance of a recurrence: clean the filter after every cycle, inspect the condenser regularly and do not overload the drum. A properly spun load also produces less water and reduces the pump workload. On an SC 701, a full-tank warning with an empty drawer points mainly to a drainage or detection problem; recognizing that difference prevents replacing parts that still work.
