On some models, the control board is responsible; on others, the fault may involve wiring, a sensor or the power supply to a module.

The washing machine normally protects itself when it detects inconsistent signals. It therefore stops the cycle and prevents the motor, heater or water inlet from operating without control. A sudden shutdown, a display that resets or a programme that does not progress are useful clues, but they do not replace a diagnosis based on the exact model.

Initial checks without opening the machine

Before removing any cover, switch the washer off and unplug it for at least 10 minutes.
