The E35 code, which appears as E35-10 on some models, usually means that the Balay washing machine has detected water in the appliance base or a possible internal leak. For safety reasons, the program may stop and the machine may lock to prevent water from reaching electrical components.

Turn off the washing machine, unplug it and close the water inlet tap before checking anything. Do not switch it on again just to see whether the warning disappears: a reset may hide the symptom for a few minutes, but it does not fix a leak.

What the E35 error means on a Balay washing machine

The exact interpretation depends on the series and model, but the warning is commonly linked to the leak protection system. A small amount of water can collect beneath the drum and activate a sensor or float. The source may be a hose, door seal, detergent drawer, pump or connection in the water circuit.

Excess foam can also be responsible. Using too much detergent, the wrong product for an automatic washing machine or an excessively high dosing setting can create abundant foam and overflow. Therefore, the code does not identify one specific part by itself: it signals a safety condition that requires finding the source of the water.

Common causes and safe checks

With the machine unplugged, inspect the floor and front panel. Moisture beneath the door may indicate a dirty, damaged or deformed door seal; if water appears near the bottom, check the filter and pump, placing a tray and several cloths underneath because water may remain in the circuit.

Inspect the inlet and drain hoses along their entire length. A loose connection, displaced clamp, cracked hose or blocked drain may explain the warning. The detergent drawer also deserves attention: residue can form a paste that directs water toward the front. Clean it without removing internal parts and check that the washing machine is level.

Avoid tilting the appliance, removing its casing or inserting tools into the pump without experience. Trapped water may remain close to the wiring and electronic control board, even when the outside looks dry. The model manual, identified by its E-Nr reference, is the right guide for locating the filter and following the draining procedure.

When to stop using it and request assistance

Professional help is needed if E35 returns after drying the exterior and checking the connections, if the washing machine leaks during filling or spinning, or if you notice a burning smell. An internal leak may come from the tub, inlet valve, pressure switch, pump or a seal requiring disassembly. Do not bypass sensors or force the door lock.

If no water is visible, the warning may be caused by moisture retained in the base tray, an activated sensor or an electronic fault. In that situation, keep the appliance unplugged and provide the technician with the complete code, when it appears and any leak or unusual noise you noticed. The model reference is essential because the code system and procedure may vary between Balay generations.

Error 35 should not be treated as a simple display fault. It is a sign that the washing machine is trying to protect itself from water, and addressing it promptly may prevent damage to the electronics, flooring and other components. Careful inspection without improvisation distinguishes an accessible connection from a fault requiring specialist equipment.
