H01 error on a Balay dishwasher: causes and solution

H01 is usually a time setting, not a fault: learn how to remove it and when to check your model manual.

A Balay dishwasher may show H:01 and delay starting without there being a fault. On most models, this display means that delayed start is active for one hour: the appliance is waiting before beginning the selected programme.

If you have a problem with your dishwasher, you can use our free error code finder. From there you can identify and solve all errors easily and effectively.

What H01 means on a Balay dishwasher

The letter H refers to the hours of waiting, while the number shows the programmed delay before starting. H:01 therefore equals a one-hour delay; H:02 means two hours, and so on for models that offer this function. It should not be confused with codes such as E15 or E24, which warn about issues involving leaks or drainage.

Delayed start can be useful for taking advantage of electricity tariffs, avoiding noise at night or making the end of a cycle coincide with your return home. When activated accidentally, however, the dishwasher may seem blocked: the panel lights up, but no water enters and the pump cannot be heard. In reality, it is simply waiting for the programmed time.

How to remove delayed start and start the cycle

The most common way to cancel H:01 is to press the button showing a clock or delay arrow several times until the waiting time disappears. On other Balay panels, you need to hold Start for about three seconds, cancel the programme and select the wash cycle again. The exact name varies depending on the appliance series and production year.

After cancelling the function, close the door firmly and press Start once. If the dishwasher begins filling, the display did not indicate a fault. When the panel does not respond, you can perform a simple reset: switch the appliance off, unplug it for a few minutes and reconnect it. There is no need to remove covers or handle wires to clear this display.

When H01 is no longer a normal setting

The meaning can vary between models, so the user manual remains the safest reference. Some appliances display similar letters and numbers for different functions, while an incompletely lit screen may make H:01 look like another symbol. The model number, usually found on the inside edge of the door, helps identify the correct manual.

If the dishwasher does not start after cancelling the delay, contains standing water, shows the tap symbol or displays an E code as well, the issue is no longer limited to delayed start. A blocked filter, kinked hose or water inlet problem may prevent the cycle from running. If there is a leak, burning smell or the circuit breaker trips, close the water tap and disconnect the power before arranging a technical inspection.

H:01 is usually a programmed pause, not a sign that the dishwasher is wearing out. Recognising the difference prevents unnecessary part replacements and reserves professional service for cases where the appliance has actually detected an abnormal condition.
