Balay SM6P1Y dishwasher error codes: a practical guide
A clear explanation of common alerts and safe checks to prevent further appliance damage.
The Balay SM6P1Y dishwasher codes act as system alerts when the appliance detects drainage, water inlet, temperature or electronic problems. Identifying the message helps distinguish a simple blockage from a fault that requires a technician, although the exact meaning may vary according to the appliance’s complete E-Nr number.
If you have a problem with your dishwasher, you can use our free error code search tool. From there, you can identify and solve all errors easily and effectively.
What the most common alerts indicate
Code E15 indicates that the leak protection system has been activated. It usually appears when the base sensor detects water in the lower tray. Close the tap, unplug the appliance and check for moisture around the door, hoses or lower area. Do not tilt the appliance or remove the base without proper knowledge, as this could hide the source of the leak.
Codes E24 and E25 are linked to drainage problems. Before assuming that the pump is damaged, clean the tub filter, remove visible debris from the impeller area and check that the drain hose is not bent or crushed. It is also important to inspect the connection to the siphon, where grease and residue can build up.
Water inlet, door and heating
An alert such as E18 usually points to insufficient water intake. The tap must be fully open and the hose must not have tight bends. The small filter at the inlet can become blocked by particles from the plumbing system. If the appliance still does not take in water, the inlet valve, AquaStop system or flow meter may require professional inspection.
Codes E06 and some alerts related to the lock appear when the door is not properly secured or there is a problem with the switch, wiring or control module. Remove anything preventing closure and check that the seal is correctly positioned. Codes E09, E10 and E11, by contrast, are associated with heating or temperature readings; checking heating elements or electrical connections without training is not safe.
Resetting and maintaining the appliance safely
A reset can clear a temporary fault, but it does not repair a damaged component. Switch off the dishwasher, unplug it from the mains for a few minutes and reconnect it. If the same code returns, the repeated alert is a sign that an underlying cause remains, not a problem that should be concealed by repeatedly resetting the machine.
Prevention starts by removing food residue before loading the dishes and washing the filter regularly. Periodic tub cleaning helps reduce grease and limescale, while balanced loading keeps the spray arms clear. Do not use chemical drain cleaners: they can damage hoses, seals and internal components designed to work with specific dishwasher detergent.
When the code points to an internal fault
Codes E01 and E02 are commonly associated with the electronic module, while E20 or E21 may indicate difficulties with the wash motor. The interpretation depends on the exact version and the appliance manual, so replacing a board, pump or sensor by guesswork can make the repair more expensive.
If there is a burning smell, tripped circuit breaker, visible leak or a code that returns after cleaning and resetting, stop using the dishwasher and request a technical diagnosis. The code guides the investigation, but it does not replace an electrical and mechanical inspection; that distinction prevents a blocked filter from being confused with a more serious fault.
