E15 error on Balay dishwashers: causes and solution
Code E15 usually signals a leak or water in the base. Learn how to act without making the fault worse.

The E15 code on a Balay dishwasher activates leak protection and usually stops the program while the drain pump runs continuously. In most cases, the appliance has detected water in the lower tray beneath the tub, although the source may be a seal, hose, pump or excess foam.
The priority is to close the water inlet tap and disconnect the appliance from the power supply. Do not keep starting wash cycles or remove parts while the appliance is connected: water and electricity are a dangerous combination, and clearing the warning without fixing the cause only postpones the problem.

What the E15 code means on a Balay
Balay belongs to the BSH group, together with Bosch and Siemens, so many of its diagnostic systems share the same logic and codes. The E15 warning means that the water protection system has detected an abnormal condition, usually because the base float has risen after liquid accumulated there.
The leak is not always visible from inside the tub. It may come from the filter assembly, tub seal, inlet hose, circulation pump, drain pump or an internal connection. Excess detergent, or leftover hand-washing soap, can also create enough foam to reach the lower tray.
What to check before switching it on again
With the plug removed and the tap closed, remove any water left in the tub and dry the floor around the appliance. A slight backward tilt may allow some liquid to leave the tray, but this is not a repair: the code will return if the leak continues.
Check from outside for moisture around connections, a bent hose or a displaced seal. Finding an internal leak requires removing panels and working with the dishwasher out of its housing, a task that can damage wires, insulation or safety systems without proper experience. It is not advisable to run the appliance with covers removed to search for the leak.
The filter and sump area should also be clean, since a blockage can affect the water level and encourage overflow. Even so, cleaning the filter will not fix a broken seal or a leaking pump; it only rules out a simple, visible cause.
How to safely reset a Balay dishwasher
After drying external water and checking that there is no obvious leak, you can try a reset. On many models, simply hold the Start button for around three or four seconds until the display changes and the appliance completes draining. Then switch it off and wait a few minutes before selecting a short cycle.
If the control panel does not respond, unplugging the appliance for about 20 minutes may clear a temporary electronic lock. However, a reset does not repair a leak or replace proper diagnosis. If E15 returns, the pump keeps running or the tap symbol flashes, water remains in the base or a safety component is still activated.
Older models may use a different sequence, described in their manual. When the appliance is integrated, moving it requires particular care to avoid stressing the hose or wiring. Professional inspection is especially advisable if moisture persists, parts need replacing or there are signs of corrosion.
When a reset becomes a repair
An isolated E15 after a foam spill may disappear after drying the tray and correcting the detergent amount. By contrast, a warning that returns after every wash points to a physical fault that must be located and repaired, not simply a program error.
A seal, clamp or hose generally requires less work than a circulation pump or hydraulic assembly. The final cost depends on the model, labor and access to the part, so the dishwasher’s overall condition should be considered before accepting an expensive replacement.
E15 is designed to prevent greater damage, but it is also a clear signal: the dishwasher has found water where it should not be. Drying the symptom without removing the cause leaves the door open to another leak, electronic damage and unnecessary water use.
