E15 error in an integrated Balay dishwasher: what to do

E15 usually means water in the base or a leak. Learn how to act without putting the appliance at risk.

The E15 code on a Balay dishwasher means that the leak protection system has been activated. The appliance may stop the programme and keep the drain pump running to prevent more water from entering. Close the water supply tap, unplug the appliance without touching wet areas and do not use it again until the source has been found.

In integrated models, the electronics work in the same way as in freestanding dishwashers; the difference is the outer panel and the more difficult access. The warning may appear because of water collected in the lower tray, a damaged hose, a leaking seal, excess foam or a problem with water intake or drainage.

If you have a problem with your dishwasher, you can use our free error code finder. From there you can identify and solve all errors easily and effectively.

What the E15 code means on an integrated Balay

The dishwasher has a safety tray at the bottom. When the float detects liquid in that area, it activates a switch and tells the appliance to stop the water supply. For that reason, E15 does not necessarily identify one specific part: it confirms that the leak protection system has detected an abnormal condition.

A small leak may come from the filter assembly, salt container, circulation pump or a connection behind the appliance. It can also appear after the dishwasher has been moved, installed out of level or used with too much detergent. Foam may overflow into the tray even when there is no visible break.

Safe checks before requesting service

With the appliance unplugged and the tap closed, dry any visible water on the floor and inspect the accessible hose sections. Look for twists, drops, cracks or loose connections, but do not remove the cabinet or pull the dishwasher if it remains fixed to the worktop. With an integrated installation, a sudden movement can damage the panel, plinth or cables.

Also check that the inner filter is clean and correctly fitted, and remove food debris that could prevent drainage. If there was a lot of foam, let it disappear completely before testing again. E15 may temporarily disappear when water evaporates from the tray, but a reset does not repair a leak; if the warning returns, the appliance needs inspection.

Why resetting the dishwasher is not enough

Holding the start button for about three seconds can cancel the programme on many Balay models, but this only resets the electronic cycle. It does not permanently deactivate water protection or correct a faulty sensor, pump or seal.

If the pump continues running after switching the dishwasher off at the control panel, unplug it and keep the water supply closed. Do not pour water, vinegar or drain cleaners inside to force a solution: they may affect the seals and will not remove liquid from the lower tray.

When professional assistance is needed

Technical service is necessary when the code returns, water appears under the cabinet, the dishwasher will not stop draining or there is a damp smell. A technician can safely remove the appliance, find the leak, check the anti-flood switch and test the inlet valve and pump. E15 is designed to prevent greater damage, not to be bypassed by the user.

After the repair, check that the appliance is level, the hoses are not pinched and the detergent matches the selected programme. Regular filter maintenance and correct use of salt and rinse aid help reduce blockages, foam and limescale, but no maintenance routine replaces repairing a real leak.

A safety warning that should not be ignored

E15 may seem like an annoying lockout, but it has an essential purpose: stopping the wash before a leak reaches the floor or furniture. Closing the water supply and cutting the power is the sensible response; repeated resets may only hide a problem that remains.
