How to reset a Balay dryer and clear an error
Restart the appliance safely and discover when an alert points to a real fault.

A restart can restore normal operation to a Balay dryer when the control panel freezes, a temporary alert appears or a cycle stops without an obvious reason. The safest procedure is to switch it off, unplug it for five minutes and turn it on again after checking that the door, filter and condensation tank are correctly fitted.
A reset does not repair a damaged part or remove the source of a blockage. It clears a temporary electronic state after the underlying issue has been addressed. If the same code returns, the dryer does not heat, the drum fails to turn or the cycle stops shortly after starting, stop repeating the reset and identify the specific cause.
If you have a problem with your dryer, you can use our free error code finder. From there, you can identify and solve all errors easily and effectively.
How to safely restart a Balay dryer
Before touching the controls, turn the selector to the off position and wait a few seconds. Remove the plug from the socket without pulling the cable, and leave the appliance without power for at least five minutes. This allows the electronics to discharge residual power and may clear a temporary control lock.
Plug the dryer directly into a wall socket, switch it on and select a short cycle with a small load. The test should be carried out with the drum free of metal objects and without exceeding the capacity shown on the model label. If the cycle starts and finishes normally, the incident may have been caused by a power interruption or a temporary control fault.
Balay sells dryers with different control panels and button combinations, so there is no universal button reset procedure. Some online instructions mix washing machine procedures with those for dryers. The manual for the exact model is the only reliable reference for any special combination or advanced reset.
The error returns: check filters, water and sensors
An alert that returns is often linked to airflow or moisture drainage. The lint filter should be cleaned after every use; when it is covered with fibres, air circulation worsens, the cycle takes longer and the machine may detect that drying is not progressing. On condenser models, also empty the tank and check that it is properly seated.
The condenser needs periodic cleaning if the appliance does not have a self-cleaning system. Moisture sensors, usually two metal strips inside the drum, can become coated with fabric softener residue or limescale and measure clothes incorrectly. Wiping them with a soft, slightly damp cloth helps maintain accurate readings, but the appliance must be switched off and unplugged while cleaning.
Room temperature also affects performance, especially in heat-pump dryers. Below 5 C or above 35 C, some programmes may take longer. An overloaded drum, tangled clothing or insufficient spin speed can create the same impression: the appliance appears faulty, although the real problem is that moisture is not being removed efficiently.
When a reset is no longer enough
If the drum does not turn after the reset, repeated banging is heard, the circuit breaker trips or there is a burning smell, stop testing the appliance. Unplug the dryer and do not remove covers, the motor or electrical components. These signs may point to a belt, motor, bearing or control board problem.
A technical inspection is also needed when the dryer does not heat after the filter has been cleaned and the programme has been checked. A persistent code is not an obstacle that can be defeated by deleting it: it is a clue that an underlying problem remains. Note the exact message, when it appears and the appliance model; this information speeds diagnosis and helps avoid unnecessary part replacement.
The best prevention combines frequent cleaning, balanced loads and sufficient spin speed in the washing machine, preferably above 800 revolutions per minute when the fabric allows it. This keeps the reset for occasional freezes rather than using it as a substitute for maintenance. A dryer that repeats the same error needs an inspection, not another power cycle.
