Balay dishwasher error 132: causes and repair
Find out what this code may mean, what you can safely check at home and when professional help is needed.

Code 132 is not a universal designation on every Balay dishwasher. On some models, the display may show a combination of numbers, a code preceded by the letter E or a warning linked to another fault. Therefore, reading the message correctly and checking the exact model is the first step before removing any part.
If you have a problem with your dishwasher, you can use our free error code finder. From there you can identify and solve all errors easily and effectively.
What code 132 may mean on a Balay dishwasher
The number may result from an incomplete reading of the control panel, especially when the appliance displays codes such as E19, E23 or E:61-03. In practice, drain-related warnings often leave water collected inside the dishwasher, prevent the program from finishing or activate the pump for several minutes.
Error E19, found in certain dishwasher families from the BSH group, is usually linked to an internal hydraulic circuit or dispenser problem, depending on the model. It should not automatically be confused with a drain fault. Interpretation varies between series, so the product number located inside the door frame is essential for confirmation.
The warning may also be caused by a simple blockage. Food particles, hardened grease, glass or an undissolved tablet can disrupt water flow and make the appliance stop. A code does not always identify one failed part; it signals that the appliance has detected a condition outside its normal parameters.
Safe checks before dismantling the appliance
Turn off the dishwasher, unplug it and close the water supply. If water remains in the tub, remove it with a container and sponge. Then take out the lower filter and rinse it under the tap, paying attention to the mesh and the housing underneath. Electrical safety must be ensured before touching the pump or any connection.
With the filter removed, check that no fragments are blocking the pump impeller. Do not force the rotor or insert metal tools; a small piece of glass can cause cuts. Also check that the drain hose is not bent, crushed behind the cabinet or blocked at the sink connection. A hose installed too low can also allow water to flow back.
Once everything is clean and correctly connected, plug the appliance back in and cancel the program by holding the start button for around four seconds, if that model allows it. Then select a short cycle without dishes. If the code immediately returns, repeated resets will not repair the cause and may place unnecessary strain on the pump.
When technical assistance is needed
If the filter and drain are clear but the dishwasher still will not empty, the cause may be the pump, wiring, level sensor, valve or an internal hydraulic component. Measuring voltage while the appliance is connected involves a risk that is not worthwhile for a household check. Replacing the pump requires identifying its exact part number, since not every component fits every Balay series.
A leak, hot plastic smell, metallic noises or water beneath the appliance are reasons to keep it unplugged. The flood protection system may lock operation when it detects liquid in the lower tray, and forcing new cycles does not remove that protection. In that situation, a technician must locate the leak, check the sensor and inspect the connections.
Before requesting a repair, write down the code exactly as shown, the full model and the point at which the program stops. This helps distinguish a 132 reading from an E19 or E23 code and avoids replacing parts by guesswork. The correct repair begins by confirming the actual code, not by replacing components at random.
A display number is not a diagnosis
Repairing a warning associated with number 132 on a Balay dishwasher may involve no more than cleaning the drain circuit, but it can also reveal an internal fault. The difference lies in the appliance’s response after the basic checks: if it drains, completes the cycle and does not show the warning again, a blockage probably existed; if it locks again, technical assessment is needed.
Caution prevents two common problems: working with live electricity and buying the wrong part. The model manual and the E-Nr number on the door frame provide the reference needed to interpret the message accurately and decide whether the work can be done at home or requires a professional.
