Error E17 in Siemens drying machine

The E17 fault on Siemens drying machines (and on some washer-dryer combos) indicates a problem with the water supply: the water-supply time has been exceeded. The appliance attempted to fill or use water but the flow/pressure or inlet route is not correct.

Possible causes

  • Tap with bad or insufficient water flow.
  • Water pressure outside the optimal range (too low or too high).
  • Clogged or obstructed water inlet filters.
  • Aquastop hose blocked, kinked or obstructed.
  • Entrance hose bent, twisted, damaged or in poor condition.
  • Electrovalve malfunction or lack of current (valve not opening correctly).
  • Obstruction in hoses or connections between the appliance and the water supply.

How to check the water pressure

Correct water pressure and flow are essential. Ideally the pressure should be within the normal household range; a practical check is measuring flow at the tap:

  1. Completely open the tap supplying the appliance.
  2. Collect water into a bucket for one minute. Approximately 10 litres per minute is considered adequate (this corresponds roughly to common household pressures around 2–4 bars).
  3. If the measured flow is significantly lower, contact your installer or local water supplier to investigate low pressure. If pressure is excessively high, use a pressure reducer to avoid leaks.

Clean the water inlet filters and check hoses

Many E17 faults are caused by blocked filters or hoses. Perform these checks before calling service:

  1. Turn off the appliance and unplug it before any inspection.
  2. If your machine has an Aquastop system, close the water supply valve and detach the Aquastop hose. Clean the filter inside the hose under running water with a small brush, then reconnect and check for leaks.
  3. If there is no Aquastop, locate the inlet filter at the back of the machine (at the connection point) and clean it carefully. Use pliers only if necessary and reassemble securely.
  4. Inspect the cold water inlet hose for kinks, bends, twists or damage. Replace any hose that is deformed or leaking.
  5. Check all connections and the hose between the valve and the appliance for blockages or foreign objects.

Checks specific to washers and washer-dryers (relevant if you have a combo)

  • Some washing programs include a load-detection phase that can last up to a couple of minutes before water enters; this is normal and not a fault.
  • Ensure the door is fully closed and locked (applies to washer-dryers). Clothes trapped in the door seal may prevent correct operation.
  • A heavily overloaded drum can affect sensors and water intake—reduce load if necessary.

When to contact a technician

If after checking pressure, cleaning filters and hoses, and ensuring correct connections the E17 error persists, contact an authorized Siemens service technician. Avoid attempting repairs involving electrical components (for example, replacing or testing the electrovalve) unless you have the proper experience and safety equipment.

Prevention and additional tips

  • Periodically clean inlet filters and inspect hoses (every 6–12 months).
  • Keep the water supply valve and connections accessible for quick checks.
  • If recurring low pressure is detected, discuss permanent solutions (pressure booster or regulator) with a plumber.
  • If you need further assistance, contact Siemens technical service or an authorized appliance specialist.
