Error 513 on Balay induction hobs: causes and solution
The E 0513 warning is usually linked to the electrical installation. These clues help distinguish it from an internal fault.

The E 0513 warning on a Balay induction hob is usually linked to an incorrect or incomplete electrical connection, especially after the appliance has been installed. The display may show an E on several cooking zones and prevent cooking, even though the glass surface and controls appear to work normally. Changing cookware or cleaning the panel will not usually solve it.
If you have a problem with your induction hob, you can use our free error code finder. From there you can identify and solve all errors easily and effectively.
What the E 0513 error means on a Balay hob
Code 513, which may also appear as E 0513, normally identifies an issue with the power supply or installation configuration. Induction hobs operate at high power: some models reach 7,200 W and require a connection that follows the instructions in the manual and the home’s electrical installation.
The warning may appear if the conductors are connected to the wrong terminals, if a phase expected by the model is missing, if the wiring does not match the installation diagram or if the power supply is unstable. This explanation is particularly likely on a newly installed hob. A new appliance does not rule out a connection error; in fact, it is one of the most common situations behind this code.
Safe checks before calling a technician
Switch the hob off using its own controls and check the electrical panel. If the circuit breaker or residual-current device has tripped, you may reset it once when there are no signs of smoke, sparks, a strong smell or abnormal heating. A second trip means there is an issue that must not be repeatedly forced.
It is also worth making sure the panel is completely dry, removing anything covering the sensors and cutting the power for a few minutes at the electrical panel. You can then try switching it on again. This reset can clear temporary lockouts, but it will not repair incorrectly connected wiring. If the message returns, the hob is indicating that the installation needs inspection.
Why you should not dismantle the hob
Checking the internal terminals requires removing the glass or base and working on a circuit capable of carrying considerable current. Even after switching off one breaker, incorrect handling can cause an electric shock, damage the power modules or leave a loose connection that heats up during use. The wiring should be checked by a qualified electrician or authorized service technician.
The professional will compare the actual installation with the model’s wiring diagram, measure the voltage between conductors, check terminal tightness and determine whether the hob is receiving the required supply. In some cases, the issue lies in the dedicated circuit, an incorrectly positioned connection bridge or unsuitable electrical protection. The solution depends on the exact model and should not be based only on how the wires look.
Differences between code 513 and other common warnings
Not every message that prevents cooking means the same thing. A zone that flashes without heating often points to cookware that is not induction-compatible or is too small; a key symbol usually indicates the child lock, while an isolated E may appear when the control panel is wet or covered by an object.
Cookware humming, a fan running for several minutes after the hob is switched off and automatic power reduction caused by excessive heat can also be normal behavior. By contrast, a persistent E 0513 code after a reset, especially with unusable zones or repeated breaker trips, requires professional attention. Recognizing the difference prevents unnecessary cookware or part replacement.
The electrical installation determines the repair path
Error 513 should not automatically be interpreted as a failed hob. In many cases, it points to the meeting point between a high-power appliance and an installation that was not configured according to its requirements. Keeping the manual and wiring diagram makes diagnosis easier and avoids guesswork.
If the warning appeared from the very first start, the installation should be checked first; if it appeared after months of use, a damaged terminal, failing protection device or electronic fault must also be considered. The correct sequence is straightforward: safely cut the power, perform only external checks and leave internal inspection to qualified personnel.
