E43 error on a Balay washing machine: causes and safe fixes
The E43 code usually points to the motor. These checks help locate the fault without putting the washing machine at risk.

The E43 code stops some Balay washing machines when the system detects an irregularity in the motor or its control circuit. The machine may leave the drum still, interrupt the program or display the warning just as the spin cycle begins. On some models, the code may appear as E:43 or F43, so the appliance manual remains the definitive reference.

What the E43 code means on a Balay washing machine
The signal does not identify one specific part by itself. It means the electronics are not receiving the expected response from the motor: rotation may be missing, abnormal current may be detected, or communication between the motor and the control board may have failed. Therefore, it does not always mean that the entire motor must be replaced.
Possible causes include a loose connector, damaged wiring, worn carbon brushes in motors that use them, a blocked drum or a fault in the electronic module. It may also appear after a temporary overload or power interruption, although a reset will only clear the warning when the fault is temporary. Metallic noises, a burning smell or sparks are signs to stop all testing.
Safe checks before calling a technician
Turn off the washing machine, move the selector to the off position and unplug it for at least five minutes. Leaving it paused is not enough: a complete power cut allows the electronics to reset. Then reconnect the appliance without extension leads, select a short program and watch whether the drum starts moving. If the code returns, repeatedly running cycles is not advisable.
With the machine unplugged, check that the drum can be turned by hand without sudden resistance. Remove trapped clothing and check for visible metal objects, but do not remove panels or insert tools. An excessive load, tightly bunched clothing or an object between the drum and tub can strain the assembly, although a freely turning drum does not rule out an electrical fault.
A visual check of the power cable and the outside of the appliance is also reasonable. A burned cable, moisture beneath the machine or an electrical smell means it should remain unplugged. Accessing the motor requires removing panels and working near mains connections, so voltage measurements, brush checks and control-board diagnosis should be left to a professional.
When the fault needs specialist repair
If E43 returns after the reset, the cause is usually in the drive circuit rather than a simple program blockage. A technician will check the motor, connectors, wiring, speed sensor and electronic board. On machines with brushes, their wear will be measured; on other motor technologies, the corresponding control system will be assessed. The replacement part must match the exact model, not merely the brand.
Repair may be relatively simple when the issue is a loose connector or worn brushes, but it becomes more complex if the motor, power module or internal wiring is affected. Cost depends on the appliance’s age, spare-part availability and labor. Before approving the work, requesting a diagnosis helps compare the amount with the washing machine’s current value.
Maintenance reduces strain on the assembly: respect the stated load, distribute clothes evenly, check pockets and let the drum finish draining before moving the laundry. Even so, natural wear cannot be eliminated. When the warning persists, continuing to use the washing machine can worsen motor or board damage; identifying the code early helps make a more informed choice between repair and replacement.
A code that guides the diagnosis but does not replace it
Balay error 43 is a first clue, not a definitive verdict about one component. The model, the moment when the code appears, any noises and the drum’s behavior provide a much more reliable diagnosis. Checking the manual and noting these symptoms prevents unnecessary tests and makes professional intervention easier.
A washing machine that stops with the drum still is protecting its components. Unplugging it, checking visible elements and avoiding untrained electronic repairs is the safest response. When the code returns, an assessment by a specialist provides security and prevents a localized issue from becoming a larger repair.
