Error E18 in Siemens washing machine

The E18 error on your Siemens washing machine indicates a water drainage problem. This error usually appears when there is an issue with the drainage system, such as a blocked pump or an obstruction in the drainage hose. You might also notice stagnant water remaining in the drum.

Causes of the E18 Error

The common causes for the E18 error include:

  • A blocked or locked drain pump impeller.
  • An obstruction or kink in the drainage hose.
  • Clogged filters or siphon connections.
  • Electrical issues related to the drain pump wiring.

How to Eliminate the E18 Error

Before starting, always ensure the washing machine is turned off and unplugged from the power outlet to avoid any risk of electric shock.

Step 1: Prepare the Washing Machine

  • Close the water valve to prevent more water from entering.
  • Turn off the washing machine and unplug it from the current.
  • Remove any remaining water in the drum to avoid spills during maintenance.

Step 2: Check and Clean the Drain Pump Filter

  1. Carefully unscrew and remove the pump cover (usually located behind a service hatch near the bottom).
  2. Clean the inside of the filter and remove any residue such as lint, coins, or buttons.
  3. Check that the drain pump impeller spins freely and is not stuck or locked.
  4. Reattach the pump cover and screw it tightly, ensuring the pull tab is vertical.
  5. Close the service cover.

Step 3: Inspect the Drainage Hose

The drainage hose can cause the E18 error if it is bent, kinked, or obstructed.

  1. Check the hose for any bends or twists and straighten it if necessary.
  2. Turn off the washing machine again before disconnecting the hose.
  3. Place a bucket under the siphon and carefully release the hose clamp to avoid water spills.
  4. Remove the drainage hose and pour out any water remaining inside.
  5. Clean the drainage hose and siphon connection thoroughly to remove any blockages like lint or small objects.
  6. Inspect the hose connector for obstructions and clean if needed.
  7. Reconnect the drainage hose and secure the hose clamp.

Step 4: Test the Drain Pump Operation

To ensure the pump is working properly:

  • Pour about a liter of water into the detergent compartment.
  • Start the washing machine’s drainage cycle and observe if the water is properly drained.
  • If the water drains correctly, the issue is likely resolved.

What to Do If the Problem Persists?

If after cleaning and checking the pump and hoses the E18 error continues to appear, the cause could be a defective drain pump or an electrical fault. In such cases, it is recommended to contact the official Siemens technical service or a qualified specialist to diagnose and repair the washing machine.

Important: Always refer to your washing machine’s user manual and follow safety precautions when performing maintenance, such as unplugging the appliance before inspection or repair.
