The SC 918 warning on a Balay dryer is usually linked to a operating issue detected by the appliance to protect the cycle, although its exact meaning may vary depending on the series and control panel. Before assuming an electronic failure, check the airflow, condensation tank, filters and door, since a blockage or incorrect reading can stop the program.

If you have a problem with your dryer, you can use our free error code finder. From there, you can identify and solve all errors easily and effectively.

What the SC 918 warning may indicate

On older Balay models, some issues do not appear as a conventional code with one letter and two numbers. The electronics may show an internal combination, a sequence of flashing lights or a service reference such as SC 918. For that reason, the number should not be interpreted on its own: the dryer’s behavior provides an important clue.

If the drum turns but the clothes remain damp, the problem is often related to airflow, condensation or moisture measurement. If the appliance stops after a few minutes, the tank is empty and the warning returns, lint may have built up in the condensate pump or internal drainage channel. An error that appears immediately after pressing Start points more toward the door, power supply or control board.

Safe checks before taking anything apart

Unplug the dryer and wait a few minutes before reconnecting it. Then empty the water tank completely, even if it seems only partly full, and clean the door lint filter. It should be free of attached fibers and completely dry before being reinstalled. Blocked air raises the temperature and can trigger an automatic safety protection.

It is also important to clean the heat exchanger or condenser, if the model allows access, using a vacuum cleaner and a soft brush. Do not bend the metal fins or allow water to reach electrical areas. Check that the door closes firmly, that no clothing is caught in the seal and that the drum turns by hand without unusual rubbing.

The two metal bars inside the drum, used to measure moisture, can become coated with fabric softener residue or limescale. Wipe them with a slightly damp cloth and dry them afterward. An almost invisible film can make the dryer think clothes are still wet or prevent the cycle from finishing correctly.

When the fault continues during the cycle

If SC 918 disappears after cleaning and the dryer works normally again, the cause was probably related to maintenance or airflow. Do not overload the drum: clothes need room to move and release moisture. A washing-machine spin speed above 800 rpm also shortens drying time and reduces the appliance’s workload.

If the warning returns, a burning smell appears, the household breaker trips or the drum does not turn, stop using the appliance. The heating element, NTC sensor, belt, pump, motor or electronic module may be affected. Repair requires measurements with the appliance disconnected, and bypassing sensors or thermal protections is not advisable.

The specific manual and product number are the definitive reference, since Balay may use different codes in heat-pump, condenser or vented ranges. Note when the warning appears, whether there is heat and whether water is collected: these details help identify the affected circuit and avoid replacing unnecessary parts.

A signal that should be interpreted methodically

The SC 918 warning alone does not prove that the dryer has an irreparable fault. Thorough cleaning may resolve the blockage, but a recurring code shows that the appliance is still detecting an abnormal condition. Separating maintenance issues from internal failures is the key to deciding sensibly whether to keep checking or request technical assistance.
