Balay 3EB967FR hob error: causes and solutions
Identify the warning, rule out simple causes and find out when the hob needs professional inspection.

A warning on the Balay 3EB967FR hob does not always indicate a serious fault. This induction model has three zones, 17 power levels and a connected load of up to 7,400 W, so its panel may display signals related to cookware, residual heat, the lock or the electrical supply. The most common cause is use or configuration, not a broken component.
If you have a problem with your induction hob, you can use our free error code finder. From there you can identify and solve all errors easily and effectively.
What to check before interpreting the warning
The touch panel on this hob is sensitive to moisture. A drop of water, grease or food residue on the controls can cause beeping, prevent a zone from being selected or make the controls appear locked. With the hob switched off and cold, clean the glass with a soft cloth and dry it completely, especially around the control area.
Cookware should also be checked. Induction only starts heating when it detects a ferromagnetic base of a suitable size. An aluminium pan without a special base, an overly small pot or a vessel placed off-center may make the power level flash without producing heat. The missing-pan symbol is not the same as an electronic failure.
This model has an extra-large left zone with diameters of 21, 26 and 32 centimetres, as well as 15 and 21-centimetre zones. That flexibility does not mean every pot will heat evenly: the base must properly cover the detected area and remain flat on the glass.
Lock, residual heat and automatic shutoff
When an H appears after cooking, it usually indicates residual heat. The glass may remain hot even though induction is no longer generating energy. The letter disappears as the temperature falls to a safe level; do not cover or clean the surface with liquids while it is visible.
If the key symbol lights up or the panel does not accept commands, the child lock or temporary cleaning lock may be active. Hold the key sensor for several seconds, following the appliance manual, until the indicator disappears. A hob that switches off after a long period without changes may also be using the anti-forget function, designed to prevent a zone from remaining on indefinitely.
Demo mode is worth checking when the controls work and power levels appear, but the cookware does not heat. This function simulates operation without activating the zones and may have been selected during setup. Its deactivation depends on the model’s sensor combination, so instructions for another Balay hob should not be applied.
When the cause is electrical
A hob showing no signs of life may have lost its power supply. Check the electrical panel without dismantling the appliance and see whether the circuit breaker or residual-current device has tripped. If it trips again when the hob is switched on, disconnect it and do not repeat the test: the issue may involve the installation, the connection or the internal electronics.
The maximum 7,400 W output requires a correctly sized installation. Using several zones at high levels can exceed the available configuration in the home. The power limitation function can adapt the appliance to certain installations, but it must be set according to the manual and, when in doubt, by an authorised installer. Do not open the hob or handle its terminals while energised.
A soft hum, whistle or the fan continuing after shutdown is usually normal. Noise can increase with thin-based cookware or during the Sprint function. However, persistent clicking, a burning-plastic smell, smoke or uneven heating justify switching off the power and requesting an inspection.
The code meaning depends on the model
The letter E, a number or a combination of symbols does not always have the same meaning on every Balay hob. It may indicate excessive temperature, communication between modules, a sensor, power supply or a detection issue, but it should not be diagnosed using a generic table found for another model. Record exactly what appears and when it happens: at startup, when placing a pan or when selecting a power level.
After removing the cookware and switching off the hob, a reset at the electrical panel for a few minutes may clear a temporary lock. If the warning returns, affects only one zone, appears while the hob is cold or is accompanied by breaker trips, professional intervention is safer than continuing to test it. Repair requires voltage measurements and inspection of internal components, which are not household maintenance tasks.
The 3EB967FR combines speed, programming, cookware detection and safety functions, but none replaces a correct connection or compatible cookware. A persistent code is a signal to stop using the appliance, keep the message and consult its documentation; this helps prevent a limited incident from becoming greater damage.
