Balay SC 871 dryer: full tank causes and solution
The dryer stops because of a drainage fault. Check the tank, pump and hoses before removing internal parts.

The Balay SC 871 can stop its cycle and switch on the full tank light when condensed water is not reaching the reservoir correctly. Even when the removable tank still has room, a blocked hose, a pump clogged with lint or a stuck float can cause water to collect inside the machine and eventually overflow. The warning does not always mean that the drawer is full: it can also indicate that the drainage circuit is not working.
If you have a problem with your dryer, you can use our free error code search tool. From there you can find and solve all errors easily and effectively.
Why the full tank warning appears
In this condenser model, moisture removed from clothes becomes water and is directed to a reservoir through an internal collection system. Depending on the appliance configuration, a small pump lifts the water from the lower collector to the removable tank. For this reason, the route between the condensation tray, pump and tank matters more than the visible level in the drawer.
When lint mixes with moisture, it forms a compact paste that can close the inlet tube or connecting nozzle. The safety float may also remain stuck in its raised position. The electronics then interpret the situation as an overflow risk and stop the dryer shortly after starting, even after the tank has been emptied. A seemingly clean filter does not rule out dirt in the lower section.
In the SC 871, water does not necessarily move from one container to another by gravity. The internal layout may suggest a simple drain hole, while a collector and pump are actually involved. Pressing a tube with a screwdriver may release water temporarily, but it does not remove the blockage and could damage a seal or valve.
Safe checks before removing the dryer panels
Unplug the appliance and empty the removable tank. Clean the lint filter, its housing and the air inlet grille. Then inspect the tank connection with a flashlight and remove only dirt that is clearly visible. Do not insert metal objects into the internal tubes, as this could puncture the hose or push the blockage toward the pump.
Also check that the dryer is level and that the tank slides fully into place. Incorrect positioning can prevent the drawer opening from aligning with the water outlet. If a direct drain kit is installed, make sure the hose is not bent, crushed or raised above the recommended height. The manual for the 3SC871 family also states that the tank must be emptied and the condensation circuit checked when its indicator flashes.
After the basic cleaning, reconnect the appliance and select a short cycle without clothes. If it stops again after a few minutes while the upper tank remains empty and the warning appears, suspicion turns to the condensate pump, float or level sensor. If water builds up and overflows, there is a genuine restriction in the transfer route or collector outlet.
When the pump or internal circuit needs repair
Accessing the pump usually requires removing panels and working near electrical connections and moving parts. Although water may come out when a tube is pressed, the pump may have a blocked impeller, operate with insufficient power or receive an incorrect signal from the float. A pump that hums without moving water is not necessarily working properly; compacted fibers and internal wear produce exactly this symptom.
Professional repair is particularly advisable if water has reached the base of the appliance, if the indicator remains on after cleaning all accessible areas or if the dryer always stops at the same point. A technician can test the wiring, level sensor, pump and seals without turning a simple blockage into an electronic failure.
This model has an approximate tank capacity of 4.2 liters and a maximum drying load of 7 kilograms, but those figures do not eliminate the need for regular maintenance. Emptying the drawer after each cycle, cleaning the filter and removing lint from the condenser area reduce the strain on the pump. In an older dryer, cleaning the water circuit is often more important than resetting the electronics: if the warning returns, the physical problem remains.
The warning points to the water route, not only the tank
A full tank fault on a Balay SC 871 is usually located in the circuit that collects and transports condensation. Checking the drawer is the first step, but not the last. When the reservoir is empty and the machine stops, inspect the internal drainage, float and pump before replacing sensors or the control board.
Careful cleaning can solve the fault when accumulated lint is the cause. If water still does not transfer or overflows again, dismantling the appliance without experience increases the risk of leaks and electrical damage. The most useful clue is where the water collects and when the cycle stops: these details distinguish a genuinely full tank from a hidden blockage.
