E01 error on Balay dishwashers: causes and safe solution
The E01 code may involve the electronic board. Learn how to reset the appliance and identify a serious fault.

The E01 code on a Balay dishwasher usually indicates an electrical issue or a fault in the control module. It may appear after a power cut, voltage surge, storm or abrupt interruption of a cycle, although its exact meaning can vary according to the model and its electronic system.
If you have a problem with your dishwasher, you can use our free error code search tool. From there you can identify and solve all errors easily and effectively.
What the E01 code indicates on a Balay dishwasher
The message does not initially point to a blocked filter, a water supply issue or a drainage problem. On Balay ranges built on electronic platforms from the BSH group, it is generally associated with an internal electronic board error, also known as the control module or PCB. This component coordinates filling, heating, pumping and the duration of each program.
A power cut during washing can leave the system in an abnormal state or affect information stored in the board memory. There is also a possibility that a voltage surge damaged a component. Therefore, E01 alone does not confirm that the entire board must be replaced: a temporary lock should be ruled out first and the appliance behavior checked.
The reset worth trying
Switch off the dishwasher using its button and wait a few seconds. Then, unplug it for at least 10 minutes, provided you can do so without pulling the cable or wetting the area. This interval allows some residual electrical charge to disappear and gives the module time to restart its boot sequence.
After reconnecting it, select a short program and check whether the display returns to normal. Rapidly repeating disconnections is not advisable: if the fault comes from the memory or a board component, immediate restarts will not repair the cause and may make diagnosis harder. If the code disappears and the appliance completes a cycle, the source may have been a temporary power-related lock, although you should monitor whether it returns.
When to check the installation and when to stop
Before using the appliance again, check that the outlet shows no heat marks, deformed plastic, burning smell or sparks. The dishwasher should be connected to a grounded outlet without power strips, extension leads or several high-consumption appliances sharing the same point. If the circuit breaker trips again, disconnect the appliance and perform no further tests.
Inspecting the board, connectors, internal wiring and electronic memory requires removing panels and taking measurements with suitable instruments. Even when unplugged, some components may retain a charge. This is not a recommended household repair for anyone without electrical training, as incorrect handling can worsen the damage or create a shock hazard.
A fault that needs diagnosis, not random replacement parts
If E01 returns after the reset, a technician should check the power supply, connectors, PCB condition and any damage caused by a voltage surge. In some cases, the module can be reprogrammed; in others, a component must be repaired or the entire board replaced. The cost depends on the model, part availability and labor, so obtaining an estimate before authorizing the work is sensible.
The exact appliance number is essential: the label is usually found on the inner edge of the door and contains the model and product number. These details allow the correct manual to be checked and prevent E01 from being confused with codes from other series. A persistent electrical code should not be interpreted as a water inlet fault without checking the appliance documentation.
The dishwasher panel can also warn about the power supply
E01 is a first clue, not a complete diagnosis. A careful reset may clear a temporary lock, but a recurring message shows that the appliance needs technical inspection. Responding to that warning and correcting a faulty installation protects both the Balay control board and other appliances connected to the electrical network.
