What the Flot function means on a Balay washing machine

Flot does not usually indicate an electronic fault. It is an option found on certain models, especially appliances with knobs and indicator lights instead of a digital display. Its purpose is to leave clothes in water after rinsing, keeping them damp and submerged until the user selects draining or spinning.

That is why several symptoms may appear together: water inside the drum, a locked door and no spinning. On older models, the indication may appear as Agua flot, Flot or through a dedicated indicator light. The exact name and button combination vary by series, so the appliance manual remains the safest reference.

How to deactivate Flot and resume the cycle

With the washing machine switched on and the selector set to the chosen program, press the button marked Flot, Agua flot or the equivalent function. On some control panels, one press is enough; on others, you must hold it for a few seconds until the indicator stops flashing. Then select drain or spin and press start.

If the panel has no dedicated key, some Balay models allow the function to be controlled with the combination of spin reduction and Agua flot. Hold both buttons at the same time, switch the appliance off and turn it on again before selecting a drain cycle. Avoid trying random combinations: an incorrect sequence may change other program settings without solving the problem.

You can also perform an electrical reset when the control panel has become unresponsive. Switch off the washing machine, unplug it for around five minutes and reconnect it. This procedure clears temporary electronic states, but it does not repair a blocked pump or remove the cause of an error code.

When the washing machine still will not drain

If water remains in the drum after disabling Flot, unplug the appliance before doing anything else. Slowly open the pump filter cover, usually located at the lower front, and place a container underneath. A considerable amount of water may come out, especially if the cycle stopped halfway through.

Remove debris from the filter and check that the drain hose is not bent, crushed or blocked. Coins, hairpins, lint and small objects can prevent the pump from working. After cleaning the assembly, tighten the filter securely and test a drain program.

Stop the intervention if the pump hums without moving water, if there is a burning smell, a leak or the circuit breaker trips. In those cases, the fault may involve the pump, door lock, water-level sensor or electronic board, components that require technical inspection. Forcing the door or tilting a full machine can cause damage and increase the risk of contact between water and electricity.

A flashing light is not always an error

The Flot function explains many cases in which a Balay washing machine appears to fail just after finishing. Identifying the symbol, draining the water safely and checking the filter helps distinguish an activated option from a genuine fault. The important point is not to confuse a reset with a repair: if the problem returns after every wash, its cause needs diagnosis.
