How to reset a Balay dishwasher with AquaStop activated
Safe steps to restart the appliance and tell a temporary lock from a leak requiring repair.

When a Balay dishwasher activates AquaStop, the pump may run continuously and the appliance refuses to start a cycle. The correct restart can clear a temporary electronic lock, but it cannot repair a leak or override a safety system. Both situations must be distinguished before using the appliance again.
If you have a problem with your dishwasher, you can use our free error code search tool. From there you can identify and solve all errors easily and effectively.
What AquaStop means on a Balay dishwasher
The AquaStop system combines protection in the inlet hose with a sensor located in the lower base. When it detects water outside the tub, it shuts off the inlet and tells the drain pump to remove the water. On many models, this appears as error code E15 or a tap symbol, although the indication may vary by series.
The water may come from a worn seal, a loose connection, excess foam or an overflow caused by clogged filters. That is why pressing the power button is not always enough: the control board can retain the safety status, and the pump may continue running after reconnection.
The correct restart to clear a temporary lock
With the dishwasher switched on, hold the Start button for about three seconds. On some panels, the display shows 0:01 or 0:00 and begins a short drain cycle. Wait until the pump stops, switch the appliance off and leave it for a few minutes before selecting another program.
If the panel does not respond, perform a power reset. Close the inlet tap, unplug the appliance and wait between 10 and 20 minutes so the electronics can discharge. Then reconnect it, open the tap and test a short cycle without dishes. Do not handle wires, connectors or the control board: they carry mains voltage even when the fault seems simple.
Why error E15 returns after the reset
If the code returns immediately, the sensor is still detecting moisture in the lower tray or there is an active leak. The reset only clears the stored command; it does not reliably empty the base or fix the source of the leak. A recurring error is a diagnostic signal, not proof that the restart was done incorrectly.
From the outside, check that the inlet and drain hoses are not kinked, that the sink trap is not leaking and that the door seal has no cuts. It is also worth cleaning the internal filter and removing foam. Do not tilt the dishwasher sharply: water may spill onto the floor, damage other components and hide the precise leak location.
When to stop testing and arrange a repair
Turn off the water and keep the appliance unplugged if the pump will not stop, water appears beneath the cabinet, there is a smell of overheated components or the error returns after a single cycle. A technician will need to remove the base to check the pump, seals, side chamber and AquaStop assembly. Do not bypass the sensor or power the inlet valve directly.
Costs depend on the model and the affected part. Cleaning or replacing a seal is usually cheaper than replacing a heat pump, drain pump or electronic module. The model number, normally found on the inside edge of the door, helps identify the correct manual and avoid generic diagnoses.
A useful reset, but never a substitute for diagnosis
Resetting the program makes sense when the dishwasher became locked after an interruption, power cut or incomplete drain. With AquaStop, however, the priority is to shut off the supply and confirm that there is no water in the base. An appliance that works again after a reset may still be leaking slowly, like a hidden drip behind a cabinet.
The protection system does its job by preventing the cycle from continuing in unsafe conditions. Treating E15 as a simple electronic warning can turn a small leak into damage to the floor, furniture or electrical installation. The reset is the first check; the absence of a leak is the real solution.
