When a Balay 5C 816X dryer displays the full water tank warning, the cycle may stop even though the visible container does not appear completely full. In this model, condensed water must travel through several channels before reaching the upper drawer; a blockage or incorrect positioning can trigger the warning and leave clothes damp.

If you have a problem with your dryer, you can use our free error code finder. From there you can identify and solve all errors easily and effectively.

Why the tank error appears

The tank is not always the source of the problem. Lint mixed with moisture can form a compact paste in the filter, lower tray or small channel connecting the collection system with the container. The drawer may also not be fully inserted, preventing the sensor from detecting its correct position. The dryer stops as a protective measure, not necessarily because of an electronic fault.

In condenser dryers, water extracted from clothes is collected and must be pumped or guided toward the tank. If the appliance is not level, the route can change and leave water in an intermediate area. The full tank light may also come on when the float is blocked by dirt, even after the container has been emptied.

Safe checks before taking anything apart

Unplug the dryer and remove the upper tank. Empty it, wash it with lukewarm water and check that the inlet nozzle contains no residue. Then remove the lint filter and clear the buildup without pushing it farther inside. The filter must be completely dry and properly seated before starting another program.

Also check that the drawer slides in without resistance and that the dryer stands steadily on all four feet. Do not insert screwdrivers, wires or sharp objects into the tubes: they can puncture a hose, damage a float or displace a component. After reconnecting the appliance, select a short cycle with a small load and check whether water reaches the tank without leaks.

If the warning returns with an empty tank, the cause may be the condensate pump, float, internal channel or level sensor. Water collecting in the base means you should stop using the dryer, because it may reach electrical components. Exterior cleaning will not fix a blocked pump or damaged wiring.

When the repair should be handled by a technician

Some signs mean you should stop testing: humming without water movement, a burning smell, a tripped circuit breaker, leaks underneath the machine or an upper tank that overflows again. In these situations, opening the casing without the right knowledge can turn a simple blockage into a more expensive repair. Electrical safety must come before restarting the cycle.

Regular maintenance reduces the chance of the warning returning. Clean the filter after every use, inspect the condenser according to the model instructions and do not overload the drum. A larger load releases more moisture and lint, extends the program and puts extra strain on the drainage system. Well-spun laundry also helps: the less water entering the dryer, the lower the condensation workload.

When the error remains after these checks, a professional diagnosis can test the pump, inspect the sensor and verify water flow without guesswork. A full tank warning is a useful clue: addressed in time, it can prevent a small blockage from affecting the motor, electronics or the floor beneath the appliance.
