In this family of washing machines, the panel may communicate the problem through a combination of indicator lights. The exact meaning depends on the version, capacity and type of control, so it is best to compare the signal with the appliance’s full label and manual. The commercial model name is not always enough to identify the correct error table.

An alert related to water intake usually points to a closed tap, a bent hose or a dirty filter. Codes E17 or E29 are commonly linked to difficulty filling the drum, while E18 indicates that water is not draining normally. Before handling anything, stop the program and unplug the machine.

Safe checks before restarting

The simplest inspection starts outside the appliance: check that the tap is open, the inlet hose is not kinked and the door closes without laundry caught in the seal. If water remains inside, inspect the pump filter when the appliance is cold and unplugged, placing a container beneath the drain area. Retained water can come out suddenly.

A symbol resembling a key or padlock may also appear. In that case, the child lock may be active and blocking the buttons. On many Balay models, it is disabled by holding the keys indicated on the front for about three seconds, although the combination varies by control panel. Do not force the selector or pull the door open.

Codes that require greater caution

Alert E23 deserves particular attention because it can indicate water in the lower tray and a possible leak. Close the tap, disconnect the power and do not restart the wash until the source has been found. A hot cable smell, sparks, loud motor noise or a recurring E2 also justify stopping the machine. Electrical, motor and anti-leak protection faults are not suitable for home repair.

When the problem comes from an unbalanced load, the machine may cancel the spin cycle and show an end signal without there being a fault. Redistributing large and small items and selecting spin again is often enough. If the alert returns with the drum empty, there are unusual vibrations or the appliance leaks, a technician should diagnose it with the model and serial number available.

An alert guides the diagnosis but does not replace it

Resetting the Balay 3TS61 only makes sense after correcting the visible cause: restarting the program will not remove a blockage or repair a leak. Switch off the appliance, wait a few minutes and reconnect it only if there is no water outside, cable damage or risk symptom. A reset helps confirm whether the alert was temporary, not hide a persistent fault.

The key is to distinguish basic maintenance from safety work. Cleaning filters, checking hoses and removing an unbalanced load are reasonable tasks; working on the pump, motor, electronics or leak protection requires experience. In an older washing machine, that distinction prevents a minor incident from becoming a more expensive repair.
