A code on a Balay dishwasher panel does not always signal a serious breakdown. On older models, including ranges identified with the A+++ energy rating, the warning may point to anything from a clogged filter to insufficient water intake. The key is to interpret the code before taking anything apart and to work with the appliance unplugged whenever inspection requires it.

If you have a problem with your dishwasher, you can use our free error code finder. From there you can identify and solve all errors easily and effectively.

What the main Balay codes mean

E04 is usually linked to an electronic fault and may disappear after switching the appliance off for a few minutes, although repeated appearances require technical inspection. E09 points to the water-heating system, while E12 often appears when limescale affects the heating element. In the latter case, suitable descaling may solve the problem, always in accordance with the model manual.

Codes E14, E15 and E16 are associated with water protection or water intake. If any of them appears, close the supply tap and stop using the dishwasher until a leak has been ruled out. E18 has simpler possible causes: a bent hose, a closed or scaled tap, or a blocked inlet filter. The flow should reach approximately 10 liters per minute for correct filling.

E19 generally indicates a dispenser problem and usually requires professional assistance. E22 warns of dirty filters, a common issue when food residue remains in the tub. Remove the filter assembly, rinse it under the tap and refit it correctly, but do not use sharp objects that could damage the mesh.

Drainage and electrical supply problems

Warnings E23, E24 and E25 concern water drainage. E23 usually indicates a pump fault; E24 may be caused by a bent hose, a siphon connection that is still closed or an incorrectly fitted pump cover. E25 points to a blocked pump or the same loose cover. Before checking the lower area, unplug the appliance and carefully remove any standing water.

Inspection should be limited to removing visible debris and checking that the hose is not crushed behind the cabinet. If the pump does not turn, parts are damaged or the code returns after cleaning, the repair should be handled by a technician. E27 is different: it indicates that mains voltage may be too low and does not necessarily mean the dishwasher itself is faulty. An electrician should check the installation, especially if other appliances are also flashing or shutting down.

How to reset the appliance without hiding the fault

A reset can clear a temporary warning caused by a power interruption or a stopped program. Cancel the cycle according to the buttons on your panel, switch the dishwasher off, wait a few minutes and reconnect it. Controls vary between series, so the manual for the exact model number takes priority over any general button combination.

If the code returns immediately, the reset has not repaired the cause: it has only restored the electronic control. Do not open panels or handle wires, heating elements or pump components without the appropriate training. A leak, burning smell, water that keeps entering or a tripped circuit breaker are reasons to close the tap, cut the power and request an inspection.

Energy rating does not change the diagnosis

The A+++ label belongs to the former European Union energy system and does not define the meaning of the codes. Since March 2021, dishwasher ratings have used a scale from A to G, with no direct equivalence between the two labels. Therefore, the energy class helps assess consumption, but the code depends on the affected circuit and the specific model.

An older Balay can continue working normally if the filters are cleaned, the drain is kept clear and water hardness is managed. The most reliable information is found on the rating plate and in the corresponding manual. Recording the exact code, when it appears and whether water remains in the tub helps produce an accurate diagnosis and prevents unnecessary part replacement.
