Balay dishwasher warning signals usually point to three specific areas: water intake, drainage or leak protection. A lit tap symbol may be caused by a bent hose or blocked filter, while codes such as E15, E18, E24 and E25 require different checks. Identifying the right signal prevents pointless resets and unnecessary repairs.

If you have a problem with your dishwasher, you can use our free error code finder. From there you can identify and solve all errors easily and effectively.

What the most common lights and codes mean

The tap indicator usually lights up when the appliance is not receiving enough water. The cause may be a closed valve, insufficient pressure, a crushed inlet hose or the small filter located at the connection. On some models, the recommended minimum flow is around 10 liters per minute with the tap fully open.

Code E18 is associated with water intake, while E24 usually indicates a drainage problem. E25 commonly points to a blocked drain pump or an incorrectly fitted pump cover. Code E15 is different: it activates leak protection because the system detects water in the appliance base. In that situation, continued use is not advisable until the source has been found.

Salt or rinse-aid warnings may also appear without an actual fault. Special salt protects the water softener and rinse aid improves drying; neither should be replaced with table salt or improvised products. A white film on glasses is often related to limescale, missing salt or incorrect dosing, not necessarily to an electronic failure.

Safe checks before calling a technician

Before handling the appliance, switch it off and unplug it. For a drainage error, remove the filters, soak up any standing water with a sponge and check for food scraps, glass or labels around the pump. The cover must be firmly locked in place; a loose part can prevent the motor from draining the water.

If the warning concerns water intake, check that the hose is not kinked and that the tap works normally. The inlet filter can be cleaned carefully after shutting off the water. Do not force connections or dismantle the safety valve on AquaStop systems. After clearing a blockage, wait a few minutes and reconnect the appliance; a reset only helps once the physical cause has been corrected.

The dishwasher may take several hours to complete the Eco program, particularly when it uses turbidity sensors and adjusts consumption. That duration alone is not a fault. However, a cycle that never ends, continuous humming, water left inside or a strong burning smell are reasons to stop the appliance and request professional inspection.

When to stop using the appliance

Error E15 requires particular caution because it may involve an internal leak, excessive foam or water collected in the lower tray. Close the inlet tap and keep the appliance unplugged. Tilting it or removing panels without experience can spread water toward electrical components and conceal the real source of the problem.

The rating plate provides the E-Nr. code, which identifies the exact model and allows you to find the correct manual. This information is essential for distinguishing, for example, a display model from one that uses indicator lights only. The same light may have different meanings depending on the dishwasher generation and equipment.

When the warning returns after cleaning the filters and checking the connections, the fault may involve the pump, level sensor, inlet valve or leak-protection system. Repairs should be carried out by qualified personnel, especially if there is water beneath the appliance, an electrical smell or repeated circuit-breaker trips. A warning light is not a complete diagnosis, but it is a useful clue for acting safely and extending the life of the machine.
