DET900L error on a Balay cooktop: causes and fixes
Common causes of the DET900L fault and safe ways to restore the cooktop.

The Balay DET900L may display warnings, stop heating or fail to respond to the panel for several reasons. In many cases, the cause is a temporary lock, excessive heat or moisture on the controls, although some codes point to an electrical or electronic fault requiring professional inspection.
If you have a problem with your cooktop, you can use our free error code search tool. From there, you can identify and solve all errors easily and effectively.
What the warning means on the Balay DET900L
Before taking action, it is useful to distinguish between the model and the message shown on the display. DET900L identifies a Balay cooktop; it is not an error code by itself. The meaning depends on the symbol, letter or number combination lit on the controls.
Flashing indicators are usually linked to a wet panel or a cloth or container placed over the touch area. Drying the surface thoroughly and removing anything from it may clear the warning. The child lock may also be active: in that case, hold the key-shaped sensor for about four seconds, provided that this is the control specified for the model.
The letter H or h does not usually indicate a fault. It signals residual heat in a cooking zone; the uppercase letter represents a higher temperature and the lowercase letter a moderate one. Even when the cooktop is switched off, the glass may still burn. The indicator should disappear once the zone has cooled completely.
Temperature, power and electronic faults
Warnings such as F2, F4, F5 or F8 are associated, in different situations, with excessive heating of the surface or electronics. A hot pan over the control panel, prolonged use at maximum power or insufficient ventilation can trigger a safety shutdown. Remove the container, keep the controls clear and allow the cooktop to cool.
A simple reset can then be attempted: disconnect the power at the plug or electrical panel, wait at least 30 seconds and reconnect it. If the cooktop is still hot, it is better to wait around 30 minutes before testing it. A reset does not repair a damaged component, but it can clear a temporary warning caused by an abnormal system reading.
Codes linked to incorrect voltage, such as U1, U2, U3, U400 or certain E combinations, should not be resolved by dismantling the countertop. They may indicate faulty wiring, a voltage spike or a supply problem. Do not handle wires or the connected cooktop; if the warning returns after the reset, the installation must be checked by a qualified technician.
When to stop using it
A cracked glass surface, burning smell, sparks, unusual noises or a tripping circuit breaker are reasons to cut the power immediately. Do not use the cooktop even if it still switches on, because the fault may affect insulation or internal electronics.
A diagnosis is also advisable when the same code appears repeatedly, a zone does not heat, the controls respond by themselves or the error returns as soon as the appliance is connected. Having the exact code, model and product number available speeds up identification of the component and avoids confusing a usage warning with a genuine fault.
The DET900L is designed to operate with suitable circuit protection and an installation matched to its power requirements. Keeping the controls dry, avoiding blocked ventilation openings and not placing containers over the panel reduces incidents. With an electronic cooktop, a few seconds of care can prevent a temporary signal from becoming an expensive repair.
